Mortality Movies at Home: Young Frankenstein
Details
Death Cafe/Mortality Movie host Gail Rubin invites to come to her home to screen a Mortality Movie. We'll watch a film related to end-of-life issues and have a short discussion afterwards.
At this Meetup, we'll watch the classic Mel Brooks comedy, Young Frankenstein. The motivation for showing this film is December 27 would have been the 25th anniversary of my marriage to the late David Bleicher. This was his favorite film, in addition to Casablanca. But if you squint, it's also a Mortality Movie.
The whole plot revolves around Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (that’s Fronk-en-steen) grappling with his grandfather’s experiments and the ethics of resurrecting the dead. Few films feature more literal proximity to mortality. Frederick spends most of the film trying not to be like his infamous ancestor, only to find himself knee-deep in brains, lightning, and questionable lab hygiene. "Elevate me."
This Meetup is limited to 15 people max. The event is free (donations welcome), and we'll have popcorn and other snacks. RSVP for a direct message for the address. Hope to see you there!
