DevOps Perth June Meetup

Details
Hello, and welcome to the June meetup for DevOps Perth!
For this meetup we have two sessions.
First off we have Glenn Sarti. Glenn is a Senior Desktop SOE Engineer at Bankwest with over fourteen years of desktop engineering experience. For the past eight months he has also been working with the Bankwest Continuous Delivery team to implement tools such as Puppet, Team City and Stash within the Operations teams. Glenn is an active part of the Software Developer community within Bankwest and also co-wrote the Bankwest Colleague Locator application which was featured in Australian Financial Review.
Session One Overview:
DevOps and Desktop IT make strange bedfellows
Most of the press and information about DevOps is focused on delivering applications to servers, but what about the end points, the desktops? The Desktop Support and Engineering teams in enterprises have been automating their application packaging and deployment infrastructure for nearly a decade and are very customer focused. What can Desktop IT and DevOps learn from each other and how can they contribute to each other’s success?
Our second session will be James Bromberger. Even before graduating from The University of Western Australia having studied Computer Science and French, James had already become the chief webmaster of UWA. Moving into Finance in 2000, he ran the majority of the online sharetrading web sites in Australia with Hartley Poynton/JDV (now known as Commsec Advisor Services). At this time he also became one of the global volunteers for the Debian GNU/Linux project.
In 2003 he ran the Australian national Linux conference (Linux.conf.au), and then moved to London where he worked for Canon Europe running what was, at the time, the largest online photo archive in Europe. After several years he moved to online advertising platform Vibrant Media as IT Operations Director returning to Perth in 2010. Since then, James has become the official maintainer of Debian images on the Amazon Cloud in his joint role as a Debian Developer (after some 13 years), and as a Solution Architect for AWS.
Session Two Overview:
A quick tour around Amazon Web Services Elastic Compute Cloud environment, some of the changes in approach that are realised in a Cloud based agile world.
Hope to see you all there
Thanks
Antony
