What is Stoicism and why is it on the rise? This ancient outlook, propounded by Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, and others has become part of America’s self-help culture. Does its appeal derive from a growing sense that civic participation can no longer bring about positive change? How does it align with other viewpoints, say, psychology and Buddhism?
