Walk Historic Gillespie Park
Details
Gillespie Park is a beautiful neighborhood just north of downtown Sarasota. Its history dates back to the coming of the Scots in 1885 and has many charming homes from the 1920s in the Mediterranean Revival, Craftsman Bungalow, Colonial Revival and Frame Vernacular styles as well as at least one that defies description.
This walk is approximately 2.5 miles, so make sure you're physically able to do this and always wear the right shoes and bring water. It will include a short history of the park and neighborhood and The Gallery of Patriots (see photo above) before the actual walk begins.
Gillespie Park is both the name of the award winning park and the neighborhood. The park's boundaries are 7th to 10th Streets and Osprey Avenue and Gillespie Avenue. We'll meet at the Gallery of Patriots, near 10th and Gillespie, which is part of Gillespie Park. The address given is the address of the park, not where we're meeting. See the How To Find Us section.
Parking: There are 20+ parking spaces around the park. You can also park on Gillespie Ave. and the streets off Gillespie, like 9th St.
Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early so you can park and find your way to the Gallery of Patriots. I'd suggest driving by before the event if you don't know the neighborhood.
Seasonal Policy: If you can't attend this event, you must change your RSVP to not going 36 hours before the event or it'll be counted as a No Show. This is to give people on the waiting list enough time to decide if they can come or not.
