NEW! Walk Historic Ringling Blvd. to Towles Court Art Colony
Details
This is a new walk for he 2025-2026 season.
This walk begins at The Federal Building (see photo above) and concludes at The Towles Court Art Colony, which is having a free open art studio event on 12/19 so we'll be able to wander into the various art galleries and chat with the artists. The walk will take about an hour and is about one mile in distance.
Some of the walk's highlights include The Federal Building, The Cain-Wilson building on S. Orange Ave., several homes and apartments from the 1920s and one home designed by Victor Lundy of the Sarasota School of Architecture (see architecturesarasota.org for more info on the school). Most of the buildings we'll look a are 100 years old though some are newer. Through photos and discussion I'll talk about the 9-hole golf course built by John H. Gillespie in 1905.
The Towles Court Art Colony will be the end of the walk so you're free to spend as much time there as you wish.
SEASONAL POLICY: If you sign up for an event, then change your RSVP to not going, you must give 36 hours notice before the event or it'll be counted as a No Show. This time of year I have large waiting lists and if you wait until the last minute to drop out then the next person on the wait list may already have made other plans or may not have enough time to change their plans. I end up with fewer people on the attendance list than I had planned. Please be considerate to your fellow members and organizer.
