Weekly Buddhist Meditation Service, Topic: The Vast Net of Indra
Details
This week, we'll explore a particularly powerful image of Oneness known as "the vast net of Indra." Most likely originating in China a few hundred years after the turn of the common era (but before the advent of Zen), Buddhist thinkers elaborated on interdependence, the role of karma (and rebirth), and what it means to be enlightened through an image of an infinitely large net, with jewels at each crossing that reflect the image of every other jewel in the net. We'll explore this image as well as it's origins, and see how it influenced both the philosophy of Zen and our own practice today.
Tonight is gonna be deep, a little bit trippy (and fun), and hopefully very illuminating and meaningful.
And please don't let the number of RSVPs influence your attendance: many of our "regular" folks don't RSVP, but there are typically at least a dozen or so of us. I hope you'll join us!
Join members the Dragonfly Sangha each Monday evening at 6:30pm in the undercroft of Mount Calvary Episcopal Church for a weekly Buddhist meditation service as we seek to find peace in our hearts, connect with the world around us, and discover meaning during challenging times.
Each service includes a brief liturgy and talk based on the teachings of the Buddha, followed by an offering of incense and meditation.
Open to all faiths and backgrounds, join us as we come together in celebration of inner peace, loving-kindness, joy, and compassion.
