February Meetup - Defensive Sysadmin

Details
Title: An analysis of security from infrastructure to applications and everything in between
Presenter: Edward Farrell is an experienced penetration tester from a global company engaged in development, delivery, and support of advanced security (among other things).
Abstract:
Ed will describe how an evolving threat landscape is constantly forcing the reorientation of how we defend networks. The purpose of this talk is to provide system and network administrators with an overview of common security deficiencies observed over the past 12 months.
Specifically, the talk will analyse:
• Security from an offensive perspective;
• The current state of infrastructure security;
• Web application security and issues identified in off the shelf and custom applications; and
• Effective defence through systems administration.
By the end of this talk, attendees will have an appreciation of practices they can employ in their roles as defenders.
