2040 Film Screening and Panel Discussion

Hi all, if you haven't seen 2040, Pachamama Wholefoods + Kitchen is screening it on Thursday the 24th at their beautifully renovated space in Brunswick!

Film Synopsis:

Motivated by concerns about the planet his 4-year-old daughter would inherit, Damon Gameau embarked on a global journey to meet innovators and changemakers in the areas of economics, technology, civil society, agriculture, education and sustainability. Drawing on their expertise, he sought to identify the best solutions, available to us now, that would help improve the health of our planet and the societies that operate within it. From marine permaculture to decentralised renewable energy projects, he discovered that people all over the world are taking matters into their own hands.

This journey is the central premise for the documentary '2040', a story of hope that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process. It is a positive vision of what 'could be', instead of the dystopian future we are so often presented.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion focussing on three prominent areas of impact relevant to Melburnians who want to create change for our planet. Our panelists are: Tom Abbotsmith Youl – Regenerative farmer at Toms Paddock, Cr Mark Riley – Deputy Mayor, South Ward, Moreland City Council (Greens) and Sean Trewick – President of Circular Economy Victoria.

This is a charity event! All profits will go to Sisterworks – supporting women who are Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrants by selling their products to improve their living.

Details of the event:

Food: we will have a reduced café menu available from 6pm till 7pm. We will be serving free vegan buttered + salted popcorn all night. Please note we are a working cafe and grocery store and will be closing as normal at 7pm so please arrive early if you would like to eat.

Drinks: We will have a temporary liquor licence and will be serving beer and wine as well as kombucha and non-alc options all night.

The film will start at 7.15pm and runs for 1h 30mins. After a short break (for more popcorn) we will start the panel discussion.

The event will be hosted in our beautiful Brunswick warehouse at 74-78 Sydney Road, convenient parking at the Barkly Square shopping center east of Sydney Road.

Tom Abbotsmith Youl is the latest generation to steward the land at Graceburn Farm in Glenburn, Victoria and also the supplier of our ethical eggs at Pachamama Wholefoods. He has developed a biodiverse regenerative farming method with cattle and chickens that allows for protecting and developing native bush corridors and blocks on the property.

Sean Trewick is a Circular Economy Engineer and President of Circular Economy Victoria. Sean is committed to a systems approach to help businesses and individuals move their consumption and production to a circular model.

Cr Mark Riley is the Deputy Mayor of Moreland city council for the Australian Green Party. He has taken a leading role in CERES, Climate Action Moreland, and various other community groups, revegetation and greening initiatives and social justice work in Moreland.
