Additional group and meeting notes;
-- Email: Please update your email address per below, as in future announcements may NOT be made via Meetup.com.
-- Cost?: Our first meeting (1) will be free, however future ‘basic?’ meetings may have a small impost (Around $5) to attend to cover our current and ongoing costs. Feedback welcome. Sponsors welcome. More later.
-- Name change: We will very shortly change our name, more here: https://www.meetup.com/Melbourne-Beginners-Arduino-Projects/messages/boards/thread/50286672
-- Can I bring my children?
Absolutely - some of our team have a current Working with Children Check, and believe it’s never too early to learn this exciting field, including coding. However as our meeting is in the big city smoke and will run late at night, please remember that all responsibility still lies with you, being the responsible parent/guardian.
Furthermore no responsibility will be taken if your child wants to skip school and heads straight to NASA the next day :)
Note: At this point in time, we won’t be doing any soldering, and all electrical voltages will be very safe at around 3 volt to 9 volt level. (Unless you lick a 9v battery!) These sessions, more so for our second meeting, will be about learning electronics and coding. Even though some hate resistor colour codes, some basic knowledge will help: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Resistor+Colour+codes and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_color_code
-- What to bring?
Besides yourself, your enthusiasm, and ideas, it would also help for, more so for our second meeting, to bring your own laptop (not tablet) with an USB (Type A^^) port, and any Internet connection such as WiFi (like your own WiFi hotspot), and please pre-download IDE software from here (https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software), as we will bring certain and limited items to work with that will need this.
More items however can be found near our meeting at https://www.jaycar.com.au/ in A’Beckett Street. Important: This is NOT a supplier and/or sponsor recommendation, and is just a FYI.
Note: As working with these items can be very varied and dynamic, further downloads are very certain on meeting nights depending on objectives, etc, etc, hence bring your own Internet connection. More later.
