Canal to Cramond

Details

Join Barbara and Joan for a relaxed ride from the Lochrin Basin down to Cramond. This ride is great for those who have recently taken up cycling, haven't been on a bike for a while, or who just want a shorter, more relaxed ride.

DISTANCE: Around 12.5m
DIFFICULTY: Beginner
TYPE OF BIKE: Any
SURFACE: Tarmac - mostly shared paths, with a couple of short road sections.
WHAT TO BRING:
• Two spare inner tubes (right size for your tyres) and tools to remove your wheels if they are not quick-release
• Lock, water, snacks and cash/card if you want to buy anything when we stop.

ROUTE Map: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/6631231608/ - note route may change slightly following reccie if we find roadworks/unexpected road changes.

DESCRIPTION: Starting at the end of the canal at Lochrin Basin, we will head along the canal path towards Fountainbridge, and pick up the new Canal to Roseburn link (shared path), where we switch on to the North Edinburgh Path at Roseburn path (shared path). We will take the fork onto the Blackhall path to Silverknowes Road,

At Silverknowes we will be on road for a short period, down to the Silverknowes promenade (shared path) which we take along to Cramond Foreshore. Turning back on ourselves we will take the promenade all the way along to Granton, where we will have a Pitt stop at the Pitt market - https://thepitt.co.uk/. Bring your own drinks and snacks, or some pennies for street food. There is also an indoor market of local crafts and produce.

After our stop, we will begin winding our way back uphill on shared paths, going past Granton Castle and Walled Garden to Waterfront avenue where we pick up the West Granton Access Path, back to the North Edinburgh Path Network and on to Haymarket.

We'll dismount for a couple of minutes to walk around the station, and then cross Dalry road and get back on the bikes as we take a cut through Dalry colonies, and skirt round Morrison Crescent (quiet roads). We end with a little wiggle through McEwan Square (shared paths), and finish by taking Gilmore park back to our start point.

RSVPs

Please update your RSVP if you can't come, and arrive in good time for the briefing. Particularly important as the weather turns colder.
