Hello All,

Come out this Sunday to Death Pond (Carl R. Hansen Nature Preserve) for a sunset deer shoot. I call it that because the pond sometimes looks a little weird and the yotes are always leaving bird kills next to it. Nevertheless, these woods are an Illinois prairie gold mine. Carl R. Hansen nature preserve is a restored prairieland. These woods are teeming with deer. The deer racks are getting pretty large on some of the older bucks and their velvet is intact.

You can get fairly close to these deer just walking on the service trail. I have great luck when I visit about an hour before sunset. Meetup won't let me load any of my pictures from my main camera for some reason. I will post some shots I got last week on my IG feed if you want an idea of what you'll be able to capture (IG name = vv.iav).

Hansen is located on Sutton Rd/Rte 59, south of Shoe Factory Rd. You enter from 59 and follow the road in until you see the first trail into the woods. It's not a long walk in, and it's a really pretty area at sunset. Hope to see/meet some of you there. Getting there at 6PM will give us a good hour to shoot before sunset at 7:16PM. I'll be at the trail entrance till 6:15, so try to be on time if you're going to come. It's a short window for capturing deer.
