The Web Meetup is an inclusive community that promotes collaboration and a better understanding of the disciplines associated with working on The Web. It's through an understanding of how to improve communicate and realising where our different roles and skills overlap that we can produce better quality applications and websites, and make our work more enjoyable.

It’s great to keep up to date with readings, meetups, and training, but until you embed accessibility thinking within your project or product delivery process, you’ll struggle to build truly accessible solutions. Remya is going to share Seamless’s journey in implementing a cross-functional working group and weaving accessibility into their web development process.

Featured as one of GovInsider's ‘Women in GovTech’ in 2016, Remya heads up the Experience Design team at Seamless. She's an outspoken advocate for inclusive design and is passionate about creating products and experiences customers love. Remya is an active member of the tech community and co-runs the Girl Geek Dinners and LadiesThatUX meetup groups in Melbourne.

Convergent Experiences: Why UX Approaches to Designing Modern Web Systems are Super-Dooper ImportantCatherine Hills

Human-centered design and right-time right-context experiences are hugely important for building user-centered web applications. Competing with detailed considerations of the system user are business objectives of speed and value to market. Now, with the convergence of experiences in new technologies such as the Progressive Web, UX approaches such as early stage prototyping and testing, the establishment of accessible front-end design systems and Lean, experimental feedback loops are more important than ever. These UX practices support nimble, collaborative design behaviour and limit system front-end technical as well as design legacy in all that we build in our systems. The goals of these UX approaches are to benefit our users as well as optimise our workflows and human interactions in our teams.

Lessons Learned: Tales from 22 years in DesignPaul Blake

Paul will take a light-hearted tour through his time in design with some potential detours into his previous lives as journalist and record store owner. He’ll discuss collaboration, teamwork, respect for each other’s skills, leadership and the importance of continual learning.

Paul bluffed his way into web design in 1995 and has been web developer, interaction designer, information architect, web editor and experience designer. He is a partner at Splendid.A passionate advocate of human-centred design, he works across strategic design, innovation and customer experience. and retains his passion for storytelling.
