Hidden Cascades: The Basin Falls, Forest and creek hike 7 KM - Challenging

Details

Step off the beaten path as I share one of my favorite spots in the quiet heart of the Dandenong Ranges as we hike to the secluded Griffiths Falls. This is not your average forest stroll—it's a beautiful, immersive adventure through overgrown trails, mossy gullies, and cascading creeks.

Our volunteers will be carrying as always first aid kits, walkie talks and GPS messaging and Emergency tracking, This is a trail I have explored several times and am excited to share it with you.

we descend into a lush valley filled with towering tree ferns, whispering eucalypts, and the gentle sound of creek cascades tumbling over rocks. The trail is overgrown and technical, with multiple water crossings—so waterproof shoes are essential.(Muddy, slippery)
Once At Griffiths Falls, we’ll take time to explore the area:

  • 🧗 Climb to the top of the falls for a unique perspective
  • 🌿 Wander along the creek bed, discovering hidden pools and moss-covered boulders
  • 🤫 Enjoy the quiet—this spot is rarely visited and deeply peaceful

### 🎒 What to Bring:

  • Waterproof hiking shoes (essential for creek crossings)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (layers, rain jacket if forecasted)
  • Snacks or light lunch
  • Water bottle (at least 1L recommended)
  • Camera or phone (for photos of the falls and forest)
  • Small towel or gaiters (optional, for wet feet)
  • Walking poles (optional, helpful for slippery sections)
  • Personal first aid kit (recommended for remote trails)

🟠 Trail Difficulty: Moderate to challenging 🌧️ Conditions: Overgrown, muddy, and slippery in parts 🌊 Water Crossings: Several—waterproof shoes required 🚫 Dogs: Not permitted on this trail
Our volunteers will—as always—carry first aid kits, walkie-talkies, GPS messaging, and emergency tracking. This is a trail we’ve explored several times and are excited to share with you.

We love seeing your perspective—so feel free to share your adventure, post your photos, and tell your trail stories from our walks. Whether it’s a misty waterfall shot or a quiet moment among the ferns, your experiences help inspire others to explore with grace.
