A place to come and share the joy of reading. We will pick one book (any genre) every month.

So we'll round off the year with a purely social event at the Christmas Market in Durlach. No special reading required - just a drink and a chat, literary or otherwise! I don't know the exact layout of the Christmas Market this year but it's not very big so imagine we'll all find each other easily enough. If necessary will post in the comments on the night. Look forward to seeing a lot of you there!
In 1974, Wikipedia informs me, Saadawi was interviewing inmates in Egypt's Qanatir prison for a study of neurosis in Egyptian women. One of these inmates, Firdaus, was sentenced to death for the murder of a man. Her story became the basis for Saadawi's novel - Firdaus herself was later hanged. So it's probably not going to be a barrel of laughs. But it does sound very interesting. Feminist masterpiece or negative western stereotypes? Let's see! Location details to follow later. €2 voluntary donations are welcome on the night.
