We will develop our philosophical thinking. Inspired by the Peripatetic School in Athens founded by Aristo where clases were taught walking outdoors, we will learn, debate, enjoy and investigate both philosophers and diverse themes from the philosophical perspective while walking through the beautiful parks and streets of Lisboa. I started this group to meet other philosophy enthusiasts. Looking forward to walk through philosophy together with everybody.

Let´s be greek and dive today on…
"Sandy" Stone (1936), an American academic theorist author of "The Empire Strikes Back: A Posttranssexual Manifesto" (1987), considered to be the founding essay of transgender studies in academia. Stone criticizes the traditional representations of male-to-female "transsexuals" (biographies and medical literature) portraying them as a simple switch from male to female with no ambiguity or middle period, reinforcing thus a binary mode of gender identification.
She argues that the attempt from transexuals to be exclusively perceived as belonging to the gender they are transitioning to, known as “passing”, is partially to blame for this phenomenon, given that it requires the practice of self-erasure in order to access medical treatment and societal acceptance (i.e. lying about one's past in the "opposite" gender), which is not only individually harmful but also politically harmful in making trans individuals culturally illegible. Stone proposed a "posttranssexual", as a transsexual who foregoes passing (as a cisgender man or woman), stating. "For a transsexual, as a transsexual, to generate a true, effective and representational counterdiscourse is to speak from outside the boundaries of gender."Deeply influenced by her teacher and mentor Donna Harraway, whose Cyborg Manifesto questions many traditional binary categories such as Nature/Technology, turning thus, in the tradition of Michel Foucault, Judith Butler and of course Frederich Nietzsche, philosophical epistemology into a true social and political weapon, unveiling the heavy weight that inherited cathegories (Nature vs Technology, Male vs. Female, etc...) hold on our reasoning. Questioning traditional cathegories and proposing new ones becomes thus a powerful battlefield inside the philosophical arena and with specific philosophical tools.
Let s think with Sandy...
