What we’re about
A group for those who enjoy the performing arts. Ventura County has varied musical talent: chamber orchestra, jazz, flamenco (!), blues, folk and rock n roll. We also have our share of theatre, musical and dramatic plus a mattering of dance. I run a meetup with many LA events, but wanted to support local arts with my neighbors. I will pick out events, you buy the ticket. We'll find a nice place to eat and meet. We will venture to Northridge and Santa Barbara.

Music for a “chorus of cellos” by Julius Eastman precede The Holy Liftoff, the most recent work by pioneering American composer Terry Riley, with flute player and director Claire Chaise and the JACK string Quartet. The exuberant and energized work represents a culmination for Riley, who says “I feel like this piece sums up a lot of things I’ve worked for.” Tickets Lawn $25

The second night performances are Music by Bach, Sofia Gubaidulina (inspired by Bach) and Tania Leon, precede the West Coast premiere of the large-scale How Forests Think by Liza Lim, a work inspired by the imagery of ancient forests as vibrant, symbiotic communities. Rhiannon Giddens has made a singular, iconic career out of stretching her brand of folk music, with its miles-deep historical roots and contemporary sensibilities, into just about every field imaginable. The Old-Time Revue band draws on deep wells from Carolina piedmont blues and string band tunes to cajun and creole songs from Louisiana; rollicking fiddle and banjo breakdowns to four part harmony old style country songs, and virtuostic fiddling and picking to heartfelt vocals.
