June book: Ultramarine by Mariette Navarro.
Ultramarine is published by a local Dallas publishing house, Deep Vellum. You can buy this book at their independent bookstore location on Commerce Street in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, or order it from their website or Amazon page!
Ultramarine by Mariette Navarro is a surreal, psychological novella about a female captain of a cargo ship who, after allowing her crew to swim in the Atlantic, finds they return with an extra, unknown man, leading to a disorienting and dreamlike unraveling of reality, control, and identity. Translated by Eve Hill-Agnus, the book uses sparse, poetic prose to explore themes of gender, authority, and the uncanny as the captain grapples with the inexplicable change and a growing sense of unease and breakdown on the ship. Tea and a snack will be provided. We will cover the whole book.
Meeting will take place at Catherine's residence near lowest Greenville Ave in Dallas - exact location will be provided before the meeting. Afterwards, feel free to continue the fun and go grab lunch on the lively lower Greenville nearby!
