The Filmonik & MDFF Documentary Kino-Kabaret Premiere Screening

Details

Join a group of ecstatic and exhausted filmmakers premiering short documentaries they've made in the last few days in a shared creative hub. Every year the quality and creativity are off the charts. Come see for yourself.

The Filmonik Kino-Kabaret is our yearly event, an all-you-can-film buffet of creativity where everyone collaborates on as many films as they can in a shared production space called the Kinolab at Bakehouse Studios. This time, in collaboration with the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival to celebrate their 10th year, the filmmakers have been busy creating short documentaries. Chaotic magic happens leading to this premiere screening on Sunday July 13. Some filmmakers had only 24 to 72 hours to execute their vision, but others will be editing up to just a few hours (minutes!) before screening. Expect immediate, spontaneous, crafty, fun, inventive, weird, urgent, current films but we never really know in advance. You may even laugh at multiple mockumentaries, not knowing what's real anymore until the quick QA with the directors. Year after year the filmmakers impress and thrive in this collaborative environment with sometimes over 60 participants. It's a celebration of film and documentary, not a competition. No creative restrictions, no set teams. Come and enjoy the creative explosion.

Aim for 5:45pm for media wall, pics and chats. 6:00pm in cinema. Films start at 6:15pm. $15.

No need to buy this screening ticket if you plan on attending the whole Kino-Kabaret event from July 10 and make films, as the separate Director, cast & crew, or actor tickets all include access to this screening.
The short films are unrated therefore it is an 18+ event by default.
