What We’re About
This group is just starting (Feb 2026,) so please expect these goals and guidelines to evolve over time. Everyone over 50 is welcome- singles, couples, whatever.
The Finding Friends past Fifty Meetup Group is for people over the age of 50 who want to make friends in the Longmont area while staying fit & active, and having fun. We go for walks, hike, and bike. We enjoy movies, live music, arts, science, and culture.
There are two goals of this group:
- Build friendships in the Longmont area. Most events will be limited in size to facilitate great conversation.
- Schedule fun activities in Longmont, Denver, and around the state.
Think you're a good fit for the group? We'd love to have you! Please read the following guidelines prior to requesting to join:
Guidelines for Signing Up for Events: This group is designed to foster friendships, so please treat your RSVP as you would an RSVP to a friend’s party.
• You must RSVP to participate at an event with the group.
• Please don’t RSVP just to save you space. Space will be limited, so only sign up if you know you’re going to show up.
• If the event is full, get on the wait list. Event hosts reserve the right to admit people from the wait list as they see fit, for example if they want to save spaces for newcomers, give priority to regular participants (for ongoing events or hosting at their own home,) or keep the male/female ratio as even as possible.
• If you RSVP’d for an event and you can no longer attend, you must change your RSVP AND contact the event organizer through Meetup private message.
• If you are on the wait list and a spot opens up, Meetup may automatically move you to the "Going" list. Please monitor your status and update your RSVP if your plans change, even if you are on the wait list.
• No-showing to an event (being on the RSVP list and then not showing up to the event or communicating with the event host,) is very disrespectful to the person who has gone through the effort of organizing the event, and to people on the wait list. We take this seriously! Two no-shows and you will be removed from the group.
If you are not well, please don’t come to an event. Please do notify the event organizer that you won’t be attending. This will not count as a no-show.
We have a “No Asshole Rule.” (It’s a book, check it out.) We expect courtesy, kindness, and respect for fellow members and staff of the venues that host our events.
Ongoing Costs of participating in Meetup: The current annual cost of Meetup is $300 per calendar year, paid directly by the organizer. After a 2-month trial, an annual membership donation of $10 per year per member is suggested to defray these costs. Donations can be made via Zelle, Venmo, Check, or Cash to the organizer. All funds collected and distributed will be reviewed by the Steering Committee.
If you are interested in being an Event Organizer, or being on a Steering Committee for this group, please send me a DM!
