Although some hiking and experience at alpine climate is recommended, you do not need to be an expert or fast hiker. We will be meeting at the trailhead in Lot 1 of Snowbowl at 7:00am and start our hike at 7:15am. We will be going slow and steady, taking periodic breaks to rest, eat, and hydrate, with a goal of reaching the summit by 10:00am/10:30am and returning to reach the parking lot by 1:00pm.
As this will be in mid-July and with this season's snow, it is possible but not likely that there will be snow/snow crossings, but bring waterproof or fast-dry shoes in any case. I will be monitoring the weather and temperature as we get closer to the date, and will reschedule this hike if there is too much snow or conditions are too crazy (super windy, super cold, etc).
After reaching the summit, I will be returning with you all to the saddle, but will continue on to do the Weatherford loop trail (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/humphrey-s-peak-weatherford-and-kachina-trail-loop). I will stay one night in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness and continue on the loop the next day. Please PM me if interested in this loop.
We will keep this group small (Max 8 persons), but if you'd like to bring a friend, feel free!
Items to bring:
- High-energy snacks like Clif bars, trail mix, fruit, meat sticks, etc,
- At least 1.5-2L of water
- Sunscreen and sun protection
- Good shoes that you can walk at least 10 miles in
