Welcome to the Frederick Hiking Group for people in their 20's and 30's!
Our group is perfect for those looking to explore the beautiful outdoors, get some exercise, and make new friends in Frederick, MD. We organize hikes of varying difficulty levels and distances, from easy nature walks to more challenging summit hikes.
Our members are in their 20's and 30's and come from diverse backgrounds, but we all share a love of nature and adventure. We welcome hikers of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced hikers, and encourage everyone to challenge themselves and try new trails.
In addition to hiking, we also organize social events and other outdoor activities, such as kayaking, picnics, and post hike breweries and winery meetups. These events provide an opportunity to connect with other outdoor enthusiasts in a relaxed, fun setting.
Check the discussion board to see events planned for the current month.
We prioritize safety and environmental responsibility on our hikes and ask that all members follow Leave No Trace principles to minimize our impact on the environment.
So if you're looking for a fun and active way to explore the great outdoors and meet new people in Frederick, MD, join us for our next hike!
Many of our events have waitlists on them and as a result if you are a no show at an event you may be automatically moved to the waitlist on the next event. Repeated no shows can result in expulsion from the group.

Explore the Old (& Very Old) Jug Bridges of Frederick + Airport Breakfast
Frederick Old National Pike Park & Ride, Old Maryland 144, Frederick, MD, USExplore the historical Jug bridge spanning the Monocacy River, east of downtown Frederick! After short stroll on the abandoned US HWY40 (now state route 144) we venture onto the bridge. The new, car bridge can be seen to the south while the old, old bridge (yes, there's 3 total) is opposite; all that remains of the original bridge though are two Abutments.
Once enjoying views at the top, we descend to the bottom of the bridge via a short but STEEP SLOPE, with the possible assistance of a rope. An up close inspection to one of the Abutments follow. There is also a small, pebbly beach if the flow of the Monocacy is low-- perhaps better as a Summer swim hole.
Finally, we meander back to trailhead parking lot, with an optional nearby drive to the physical Jug Monument (pictured) and/or Breakfast @Airways Inn of Frederick.
NOTES:
1. Accessing the bottom of the bridge may be slippery.
2. Meet Spot is @ Graffitied roadblocks to the East of the Park & Ride Car lot (see uploaded photo).15 attendees
