### 🌄 Route Highlights:

We’ll begin our journey alongside the River Arun, passing the striking Amberley Castle — a 12th-century fortified manor once home to the Bishops of Chichester. Surviving medieval battles and Tudor renovations, the castle now stands as one of Sussex’s most iconic landmarks.

From there, we’ll climb the ridge past Rackham Hill and Springhead Hill, with panoramic views across the Downs, before descending through peaceful farmland near Harrow Hill and Lee Farm. On a clear day, you’ll spot Arundel Castle in the distance.

Next, we head into the timeless village of Burpham, mentioned in the Domesday Book, with its flint cottages, Saxon roots, and ancient church.
We’ll loop back via quiet bridleways, cross the railway line, and follow the river past Houghton Bridge, finishing back at Amberley Station.
Expect a rewarding mix of scenery, stories, and South Downs charm — perfect for a full day out.
