What we’re about
👋 Welcome to Our Hiking Group!
Escape the city and explore Britain’s countryside with a welcoming community of nature lovers. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, you’ll find fresh air, adventure, and good company here.
🌱 About Us
Founded in April 2025, we’re a group of outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy exploring trails and building connections. Our aim is to create a respectful, inclusive space where people can discover the outdoors together.
🤝 How We’re Run
The group is run by a small volunteer team. We plan and lead hikes as peers, not professionals, and make decisions with the community’s best interests in mind.
✅ Who Can Join
Adults aged 21+ are welcome. For safety and inclusivity, children and pets are not permitted.
💰 Cost
All hikes are free – just sign up, turn up, and enjoy the trail.
🥾 Our Walks
We run 10–20 mile hikes across London and the surrounding counties, from scenic woodlands to rolling hills (and the occasional muddy field!). Some routes are beginner-friendly, others more challenging, but all offer fresh air, adventure, and good company.
🌄 What to Expect
Expect a friendly welcome at the meeting point, a steady group pace with regular breaks, and a mix of solo adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. Many hikes finish near a café or pub for a relaxed catch-up, and the occasional scenic detour is all part of the fun! 🍓
💪 Fitness & Readiness
Most hikes require moderate fitness and the ability to walk 4–6 km/h at a steady pace. Check each event description for details.
🗺️ Hike Difficulty Levels
- Easy: up to 12 km, mostly flat
- Easy/Moderate: up to 15 km, some slopes
- Moderate: up to 20 km, mixed terrain, moderate fitness
- Moderate/Strenuous: up to 30 km, steep sections, experienced hikers
- Strenuous: 30+ km, rough terrain, advanced hikers
- 👉 Full grading reference available HERE.
👨👩👧👦 Travel
Most hikes are accessible by public transport. You’ll need to buy your own ticket. Where possible, we may coordinate group travel options such as Southern Railway DaySave tickets (£13 advance, same-train travel). Network Railcards may also reduce costs, check National Rail for details.
📍 Meeting Points
Some hikes offer two meeting options: a London station for group travel, or the official starting point.
🎒 What to Bring
- Packed lunch and snacks
- At least 2L water
- Sturdy hiking boots
- Layers and waterproofs
- Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
- Personal medication / blister plasters / first aid basics
- Optional: walking poles
- Fully charged phone
- Head torch
👣 Staying Together
Please keep others in sight and avoid straying too far ahead or behind. If you’re at the front, pause at junctions; if you’re at the back, stay close enough to see someone ahead. It’s everyone’s responsibility to help keep the group together. We’ll stop from time to time, usually at junctions, to allow the group to regroup, rest, and reconnect with others in the group. Try to keep the group leader in your line of sight at all times, if possible.
🌿 Safety & Responsibility
Your safety is your own responsibility. Hiking carries risks such as injury, illness, weather, terrain, and wildlife. Please be honest about your fitness, bring the right kit, and prepare for changing conditions.
Carry sufficient food and water, dress appropriately, and keep your phone fully charged. Download offline maps as signal may be limited. Personal accident insurance is your responsibility.
Organisers may decline participation if they believe safety could be at risk.
🩺 Illness Policy
Please do not attend if you are unwell or recovering from illness. Even mild symptoms can affect your experience and the wellbeing of others. Join us again once you’re fully recovered so you can enjoy the hike safely.
⚠️ Code of Conduct
We strive to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone. A great event depends on the participation and cooperation of all attendees. If you have any concerns, complaints, or encounter any unpleasant situations, please contact the organisers privately so we can address them promptly and constructively.
- Be respectful, kind, and welcoming to all members and trail users.
- Follow safety advice, local laws, and organiser instructions.
- No smoking, drugs, or alcohol (unless explicitly allowed).
- Unsafe, disruptive, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated and may lead to removal from the group.
🌱 Respect for Nature
- Leave No Trace: take your rubbish home.
- Stay on marked paths.
- Do not disturb wildlife or remove plants.
- Respect landowners, gates, and signage.
📅 RSVP and Attendance Guidelines
Please RSVP only if you genuinely plan to attend, and update your response as soon as possible if your plans change.
If you can no longer make it, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance so someone else has the chance to join.
We understand that plans can sometimes change, but frequent no-shows, same-day cancellations without a valid reason, or signing up for multiple events across different groups on the same day without genuine intent to attend prevent others from joining and disrupt event planning.
Repeated behaviour may result in removal from the group.
Members with two or more no-shows will receive a reminder, and continued no-shows may lead to removal from the group.
If you are a regular and reliable attendee who ends up on the waitlist, feel free to message the event host directly. We do our best to give priority to those who consistently show up and contribute positively to the group.
Thank you for helping keep our events enjoyable, well organised, and fair for everyone.
🧭 Navigation
Always read the event details and bring a map, GPS, or offline app. Let the organiser know if you leave the group. Share an emergency contact with someone you trust.
📸 Media
We may take group photos during events and share them on the Meetup page (visible to members). If you’d prefer not to appear, let the event host know and step out of the frame. Some photos may also be shared on our social media (e.g. Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn), names or personal details will never be included.
⛈️ Event Cancellations
Hikes run in most weather but may be cancelled for safety or organiser availability. Always check the event page before travelling.
🗺️ Hike Guides
Our hikes are planned in advance and led by experienced volunteers. We choose routes with care and local knowledge, so everyone can enjoy the walk safely together. Please remember, we’re not professional guides.
🤔 New or Unsure?
Message the organisers – we’re happy to help.

FREE HIKE ~22km - The Saxon Shore Way - Rye Castle to Hastings Pier
Rye Station, Station Road, Rye, East Sussex TN31 7AB , GB📈 Grade: 🥾🥾🥾 🥾Level 3.5/5 - with some ascents and descents towards the end of the walk.
SUMMARY:
🥾 ~22 km | Linear Walk | Ascent: 398 m | Duration: ~ 6 hours
📍 Start: Rye Station Car Park at 10:00
🚆 For trains and group tickets from London, please check with others coming from London
🏁 Finish: Hasting approx. 16:00-17:00
⚠️ Coastal cliffs, Woodland & StepsABOUT:
This linear walk offers a great variety of rivers, inland and coastal sceneries, woodland, English heritage, including the Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) and Camber Castle, as well as the ancient town of Rye. There are public toilets only a few kilometres into the walk and at the end of the walk. We begin at Rye Station Car Park and conclude at a pub near Hastings railway station.DESCRIPTION:
The walk begins in the historic town of Rye. We head towards the Rye Castle (Ypres Tower), where we can also see the seafront. Shortly afterwards, we head towards Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where we see Camber Castle. On the way, we pass by a range of rivers, including the River Tillingham and the River Brede. Our route then leads us to the England Coast Path and eventually Pett Level Cliffs. We stop for lunch somewhere near the Cliff End area, which offers stunning sea views. After lunch, we carry on our scenic clifftop walk towards Fairlight Glen, a shaded ravine in Hastings Country Park and Hastings. We then continue along the cliff path, taking in the stunning coastal views and Hastings Pier. This section of the hike is hilly, so be prepared to sweat and burn those legs.
Our walk concludes at a welcoming pub close to Hastings railway station, where we can relax and reflect on the day’s journey.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) – The Ypres Tower was built in the 13th century to defend Rye against attacks from across the Channel, and it served as a fort, private dwelling, women's prison, court hall, and museum.
- Rye Harbour Nature Reserve – One of England's biggest and most biodiverse coastal wetland reserves.
- Camber Castle – This castle, located between Rye and Winchelsea and open to the public, was built by Henry VIII and designed to guard the port of Rye. Around 500 years ago, we would have seen the sea here, rather than fields, and the Camber Castle overlooked the shallow waters of Rye Bay.
- Coastal views – Views of the sea, occasionally ships, and eventually the Hastings Pier.
Hastings Pier – One of England’s modern piers, reopened in April 2016, nearly six years after it was almost totally destroyed by fire.

FREE HIKE 20km | Hills and Heathlands: The Box Hill Challenge
Boxhill and Westhumble station, Westhumble Street, Boxhill, Dorking, GB📈 Grade: 🥾🥾🥾🥾 Level 4/5 – Challenging terrain with steep climbs and descents
Set in the heart of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this challenging circular hike explores some of southern England’s most inspiring landscapes. The route links two of the region’s finest viewpoints, Box Hill and Headley Heath, offering steep climbs, wooded valleys, and sweeping vistas across the North Downs.
The walk begins with an immediate ascent up Box Hill, made famous by John Keats, who is said to have drawn poetic inspiration from its tranquil beauty. The climb is demanding, but the reward is a breathtaking panorama over the River Mole and the rolling countryside beyond. At the summit, pause to imagine Jane Austen’s Emma strolling these very slopes. Box Hill plays a memorable role in her novel as the setting for a pivotal picnic scene.
From here, the route dips into shaded woodland trails and open chalk grasslands. The undulating terrain keeps the legs working and the heart rate high, with several steep ascents and descents as you make your way toward Headley Heath.
The return to Box Hill follows winding forest paths and ridge-top tracks, offering yet more spectacular views and a real sense of accomplishment by the end.
Whether you’re here for the physical challenge or to walk in the footsteps of literary greats, this route captures the essence of the Surrey Hills AONB, steep, scenic, and steeped in history.
We’ll finish with an optional pub stop to relax, rest our legs, and celebrate conquering this challenging hike before heading home.
