🌿 What Is the Greensand Way?
The Greensand Way is a long-distance footpath in southeast England stretching about 108 miles (174 km) from Haslemere in Surrey to Hamstreet in Kent. It mostly follows the Greensand Ridge, a geological formation of greensand rock that runs broadly west–east south of the North Downs, offering gently rolling hills, ancient woodlands, farmland and some gorgeous views.
——
📖 SUMMARY:
⭐️This is Greensand Way– Part 2⭐️, continuing our journey after Part1 (24th January) and stepping deeper into the heart of the Surrey Hills.
- Starting from Witley train station, we’ll rejoin the Greensand Way and gradually build momentum through peaceful woodland paths and rolling countryside. This section feels longer, wilder, and more immersive, with sustained climbs rewarded by expansive ridge views.
- As the day unfolds, the landscape becomes more dramatic: quiet forests, sandy ridgelines, open heath, and long stretches where the trail feels beautifully remote. The route steadily works its way toward the high ground of the Surrey Hills, finishing with a satisfying climb to Pitch Hill one of the most scenic viewpoints in the area.
- Expect a full, rewarding day on your feet — steady pace, plenty of pauses to enjoy the views, and that unmistakable Greensand Way feeling of space, calm, and connection with nature. - We will finish the hike at Gomshall train station.
——
