Friends social group

Welcome to our friendly group for people 50 or over who are looking to make new friends. First some important admin. PLEASE NOTE that we require a unique name or 'identifier' for each member that appears alongside your profile.  This greatly helps with the admin! For example "Joe 247" or "Joe B".  This doesn't have to be your surname, but can include numbers and/or letters after your first name. Also, the photo should not include others, it should be you alone as it’s how we will be able to identify you at an event.

" Please don't give that name when you answer the questions, it needs to be in your profile/picture** (see below for instructions).  A single name WILL BE DECLINED. Please make sure your profile photo is a clear, recent, face-only without sunglasses (just like a passport photo).

** To amend your profile to include the identifier, please follow these simple instructions:
1.  Open the Meetup app
2.  Press on your mini photo - top right hand corner
3.  Press on the pencil symbol - top right hand corner, next to the cogwheel
4.  Amend your name to include a surname/number/something unique to you, then...
5.  Remember to press 'SAVE' at the bottom of the screen

You should now be able to view your new Meetup profile.  If it is now complete with an identifier, we look forward to receiving your request to join Friends Social Group. You should then hear back from us within 1-2 days. Thank you.

We are based in Leeds and have members from all over Yorkshire. Our objective is to bring together people who are looking to broaden their circle of friends and socialise a bit more.

We organise a wide variety of events, so there's always something for everyone or ask if you have some ideas. If you’d like to try us out before paying the £5 annual membership fee, you are very welcome to attend one of our coffee mornings free of charge.

Please be courteous to others! We understand that things can and do happen at the last minute so if you’re going to be late or unable to attend, please amend your RSVP as soon as possible to let your host know and / or allow someone on the waiting list to go instead. We don’t tolerate no shows and will remove members who don’t make their apologies more than once. If you’re feeling unwell, please don’t show up and pass along your germs to others!

We are a social group and not a vehicle for advertising your products or business. Memberships are cancelled if you contravene these rules or have not visited the website for six months.

The cost of 2025’s annual membership is £5 on a pro rata basis, payable to your host at your first event of the year. Please note that we may not be able to action Requests to Join immediately as we fit in our volunteering for this group amongst other commitments (full time work as an example!).
