Hey friends, let’s sneak in a mellow night ride on the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail this Friday, February 6!
We’ll roll out at 5:05 pm, which is about 30 minutes before the 5:38 pm sunset in Half Moon Bay, so we can catch the last light, watch the sky change, and ease into night riding together.
Run whatcha' brung: this is e-bike, gravel and MTB friendly (I'll have a gravel bike).

## Ride plan

  • Meet time: 4:50 pm (roll at 5:05 pm sharp).
  • Start/finish: Coastal Trail area near Half Moon Bay State Beach.
  • Route: Out-and-back on the Half Moon Bay segment of the California Coastal Trail, roughly 10–12 miles total at an easy, social pace.
  • Pace: Casual and chatty; this is a fun ride, not a workout.
  • Estimated ride time: About 75–90 minutes including quick photo and regroup stops.

## Route vibes and points of interest

We’ll cruise the mostly flat coastal path that runs parallel to the ocean, with wide-open views of bluffs, cypress trees, and long sandy beaches. As we head along the trail, we’ll pass a string of Half Moon Bay State Beach access points and overlooks, with plenty of spots to pull over, watch the waves, and enjoy the post-sunset glow. Much of the route is paved and smooth, making it beginner-friendly and perfect for a relaxed evening spin.
We’ll plan a couple of short regroups at scenic pullouts so no one feels rushed and everyone can enjoy the views (and maybe grab a few golden-hour photos). Once we’ve had our fill of ocean air and night riding, we’ll head back along the same trail toward town and roll over to Main Street.

## Lights and safety gear

Because this is a night ride on a mixed-use path, proper lights and safety gear are a must. Please bring:

  • Two front headlights (one can be your main beam, the other as a backup or on a lower setting).
  • One medium-intensity tail light (bright enough to be seen, not so blinding that it nukes your buddies’ retinas).
  • A helmet (non-negotiable), plus any reflective bits you like: reflective vest, ankle bands, or reflective accents on your bike.

Also recommended: full-finger gloves, a light wind layer, and anything you need to stay comfortable and warm by the coast in the evening.

## Post-ride hang

We’ll wrap up the ride and then roll or walk over to Cantina @ San Benito House (356 Main Street) for post-ride libations, snacks, and general debriefing. The Cantina is open Friday nights and has a relaxed, lively vibe with craft beer, tequila, and Mexican food—perfect for swapping stories and warming up after riding in the ocean air.
If you’re in, hit “going,” charge your lights, and get ready for a chill Friday night spin by the ocean.
