At the meetup we’ll explore the development of sex robots and how soon it will be before they are commonplace in the bedroom. Advances in artificial intelligence, synthetics, 3D printing, and of course robotics are making huge strides. We’ll take you on a tour of the state of sex robots and the technologies that are bringing them to life. Also, with health and sexuality researcher Dr. Michelle Mars, who coauthored the paper “Robots, Men and Sex Tourism,” we’ll discuss the social implications of sexbots and how they may help or hurt humanity.

Sex Robots 101

The meetup will begin with a 15-minute overview of sex robots on the market and in the making by FutureofSex.net (http://futureofsex.net/) editor Jenna Owsianik. She’ll show how cutting-edge technology can be molded together to create highly realistic and functional robotic companions, focusing on the futuristic inventions of engineers and artists.

The Future and Implications of Sex Robots

Next Dr. Michelle Mars, whose paper predicts android sex workers will take over Amsterdam’s red light district by 2050, will speak with Jenna about the social factors driving the production of sexbots and the potential downsides to them. This 20-minute section will also cover how robots may give us mortals an outlet to explore our sexualities in unexpected and perhaps healthier ways.
