I love these swing dancing classes and I'm putting the word out for anyone who fancies coming along with me.

It's a fun, friendly bunch of local people, and you honestly don't need any experience or a partner — you'll be dancing from your first lesson.

Swing came out of the late 1920s and 30s jazz scene, so expect toe-tapping music, lots of laughs and a warm, welcoming crowd.

Partners change throughout the class, so everyone gets involved.

A little heads up: during the lesson itself there's not much time to chat — you're too busy learning the steps! But the real fun is after the class, when everyone stays on for social dancing. By then you're already familiar with the group, so it's a lovely, relaxed time to talk and build new connections.

I usually head off after a couple of social dances, but you're welcome to make your own plans — some people might like to carry on and grab a pizza nearby for supper afterwards. A great way to keep the night going and get to know everyone.

When: Wednesday 29th July, 7pm to 8pm (beginners class). Classes run fortnightly, so come along and make it a regular.

Where: Geelong West Community Hub — parking behind the hall
Cost: $15

What to wear: Something comfy you can move in, and flat soled shoes without much grip so you can glide and turn easily. Sneakers that aren't too grippy work well too.

Come solo or bring a friend — either way I'd love to see you there.
