What we’re about
Welcome to Geekocracy: the best Meetup group for fun events with your fellow geeks and gamers! The goal of this group is to coordinate fun and inclusive social events — like happy hours, game nights, movie premieres, etc. — to get out from behind our TV screens and make new friends. Geek culture is taking over the world and we're going to be in the middle of it! If anyone has recommendations or would like to help with organizing events, reach out to me or one of our event organizers.
GROUP POLICIES (PLEASE READ)
No-shows: The participation of our members is what makes Geekocracy fun, and it’s important for us to have an accurate headcount. Please arrive promptly to events or let the host know if you are delayed. If you do not plan to come, CHANGE YOUR RSVP TO "NO" before the event or contact the host. If you do not, you will be marked "no-show." Repeat offenders will receive a warning and may be removed without further notice.
Behavior: Harassing, annoying, and poor behavior is grounds for removal. Complaints from multiple members may result in removal. Please be respectful of your fellow geeks!
***All events are strictly 18+ unless with a parent or legal guardian***
***Please have a visible picture of yourself when requesting to join***

See all- Book Club: The Handmaid's Tale (at Hooters)Hooters, Tampa, FL
Now a Hulu series, The Handmaid's Tale is an instant classic and eerily prescient cultural phenomenon, from "the patron saint of feminist dystopian fiction." Because we love irony, we are meeting at Hooters (Hillborough Ave location). I hear the ... wings... are decent.
We will be reserving a table so PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVPs at least two hours before the event! NO NO-SHOWS!
Summary: Set in the near future, what was once the United States is now called the Republic of Gilead, a theocracy that has reacted to social unrest and a sharply declining birthrate by reverting to, and going beyond, the repressive intolerance of the original Puritans. The regime takes the Book of Genesis absolutely at its word, with bizarre consequences for the women and men in its population. The story is told through the eyes of Offred, one of the unfortunate Handmaids under the new social order.
A note: This book is not for the faint of heart and contains mature themes, including sexual assault and violence.
Where to get it: You can borrow the text version and the audiobook with a library card through Libby and Hoopla. You can listen to Elizabeth Moss narrate it on YouTube here, or find the Kindle file here.
