Glencourse Reservoir in Pentland Hills

Details

Mary invites to join her on this popular jaunt in Edinburgh's stunning Pentland Hills... with beautiful views/sights including reservoirs, farms and woodland.
We will set off from Bonaly bus 10 terminus, over the bypass, then uphill towards Glencourse, Torrduff and Clubbiedean Reservoirs, as well as Kinlleith Farm.

THE PENTLAND HILLS REGIONAL PARK: is a living, working landscape which consists of around 10,000 hectares of countryside and 100km of paths. It’s a protected landscape containing a rich mosaic of
farmed land, heather moorland, reservoirs, woodland and hills.

GLENCORSE RESERVOIR: Beneath its waters are concealed the remains of the Chapel of St Katherine's in the Hopes. This dates back to the 13th century and the reign of Robert the Bruce. In the unlikely event that it's been extremely dry and the waters are shallow, you might even see it peering out above the surface.

CLUBBIEDEAN AND TORDUFF RESERVOIRS: were constructed in 1849 and 1848 to gather water from the North Pentlands Aqueduct to supply Edinburgh. Each has its own character and charm.
Clubbiedean is tree-lined and surrounded by relatively flat countryside, whilst Torduff sits in a steep-sided valley, with rocky crags on its southern side.
The name Clubbiedean is probably from the Scots 'clabby '(meaning miry) and 'Dene' (a long winding valley).
