Overview
Join us at this month’s BrisScience as Dr Millicent Smith reveals how climate-resilient crops may be hidden in nature's genetic diversity.
Climate change is turning up the heat on global food production.
As temperatures soar and droughts intensify, can we still grow enough food to feed everyone?
One solution lies in the genetic diversity within crop species themselves.
Join Dr Millicent Smith as she reveals how we can harness novel diversity by screening thousands of plants using cutting-edge phenotyping tools to identify climate champions.
Dr Millicent Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Crop Physiology at The University of Queensland (UQ), specialising in climate adaptation in grain legume crops. Her research spans controlled environments to large-scale field experiments, combining advanced phenotyping and genetics to identify adaptation traits and deliver the knowledge and tools to develop climate-adapted varieties through partnerships with plant breeders.
