#### Topic: Who Owns The Future? Land, Wealth and the Next Generation

Land has always shaped Australia's economy, society and environment. Yet increasingly, land is being treated as a financial asset rather than a shared resource that underpins housing, food production, ecological health and community wellbeing.
This public lecture explores how Australia's hyper-financialised and extractive approach to land ownership and development may be contributing to some of the defining challenges facing younger generations, including housing affordability, wealth inequality, insecure employment and declining social mobility. While land values continue to rise, many Australians are finding it harder to access secure housing, build wealth or participate meaningfully in decisions about the places where they live.
Bringing together perspectives from planning, economics, environmental management and social policy, the lecture will ask a central question:
What would it mean to steward land for future generations rather than extract value from it for short-term gain?
