PLEASE NOTE - This is a moderate hike with an uphill climb for the first part of the hike and downhill descent for the second part of the hike. This hike is primarily a ridgeline hike in the middle of the summer months. You can subtract 10 to 12 degrees from the forecasted high temperature in Charlottesville. However, If the forecast is for extreme heat (like it is currently), the hike leader will cancel the hike. With this being a summer hike, it is going to be very important that every hiker bring adequate amounts of water and/or electrolytes.
Hike Details - The hike leader retirement did not last long. I am not going to be posting every weekend like I had done. I am going to be doing a hike per month and possibly more in the fall and winter. This is a straight forward hike. We are going to hike from Fishers Gap to the summit of Hawksbill. Along the way, we will have multiple viewpoints from the Appalachian Trail and the panoramic 270 degree view from Hawksbill. After completion of the hike, we will go to Big Meadows Wayside and have some of the crack ice cream/blackberry ice cream and socialize.
What to Bring - Broken in Hiking Boots, Trekking Poles, Lunch/Snacks, 3 to 5 Liters of Water/Electrolytes, First Aid Kit, Good Day Pack, Camera, Tick Repellent, Money for Your Driver,
