The Appalachian Trail used to traverse the slopes of Wintergreen, but now the trail is routed to avoid the resort.

Hiking Experience:
The hike is generally considered slightly moderate, with some elevation gain as you approach the cliff.

So the distance from the picnic area to Battery Cliff is in and out about 3 miles (very doable for everyone)
Temperature in the mountains will be cooler.
What to Bring/Wear: water, snacks, good hiking shoes/ hiking poles

Meeting Location: Humpback picnic area at mile post 8.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway at 9 AM on August 22, 2025 (Friday).

Dog Policy: I am happy to have well behaved pups join - must be on a leash and please pick up after your pet.
