NCTA Grand Traverse Chapter – January Monthly Meeting
Details
Our January meeting will be Tuesday, January 20, 7:00 pm at the Boardman River Nature Center. We will recognize our members who have received NCTA awards, NCTA Volunteer Milestone Awards, NCTA Hike 100 finishers, and GTC 107 Mile Challenge finishers!
Following the awards, Jill and Kent Nordin will share their recent trip to Zermatt:
“Just across the Italian border in southern Switzerland lies Zermatt, a mountain village that feels both worlds away, yet easily accessible. Nestled at 5,315 feet, it is cradled by the highest peaks in the Alps, including the Monte Rosa Massif and the iconic Matterhorn, which towers nearly 10,000 feet above the town.
“What makes this trip unique is the seamless blend of rugged alpine beauty and ‘civilized’ adventure. We shared lift rides with year-round skiers to reach world-class hiking trails at every elevation. Whether it was a cogwheel train climbing the steep slopes or a funicular tunnel blasted through solid rock, the journey to the trailhead was as memorable as the hike itself. We capped our journey with the legendary Stoos ridge hike —offering 360-degree views looking down on ten lakes—before a final "refuel" at the Lindt Home of Chocolate in Zurich to see their world-famous 30-foot chocolate fountain.”
