Details

This is a moderate ride of 36ish miles that will take us along Salisbury Beach, a side trip to Salisbury Beach Reservation, across the Route 1 bridge into Newburyport, along the Clipper trail, out to Plum Island, in to the Parker River Natinal Wildlife Preserve to the observation tower, back through Newburyport, and returning via the nicely paved Old Eastern Marsh Trail.

We'll check out the Port City Sandwich Shop in Newburyport as a lunch stop on the return route.

There are no rest room facilities at the ride meeting location. However, there are rest rooms at the Salisbury Beach Reservation mile 6, at the Parker River Wildlife Refuge visitors' center mile 15-1/2ish and a couple of places within the preserve. Entrance to the preserve is free to bicyclists.

The Clipper City Trail is multi-use along the waterfront, although not all think so. Bike riding is not allowed on the Newburyport boardwalk.

Monday Ride Group Guidelines

  • Expect a 11-12+ mph average ride pace and 12-15 mph level ground rolling speed ... plus or minus with hills and wind.
  • While the ride is considered "no drop," riders are expected to make a reasonable effort to maintain the published pace to avoid significantly disrupting the group flow so that all can enjoy the ride.
  • Bring your water, snack, Road ID, and required helmet.

Safety First!
