TNR Weekend Edition - Nahant/Deer Island

Join the TNR crowd for an encore weekend (Columbus day) edition ride on Sunday Oct 12 when we'll tour Nahant. We'll depart out of Somerville and head over to the Northern Strand, which will get us to Lynn and Nahant. After exploring Nahant, we'll circle back via Revere Beach, Winthrop and Deer Island, then cut over to return along the Mystic River.

The route is about 54 miles long with about 1200 ft of climb. We'll stop at Nahant for the views off the coast, lunch at Kelly's on Revere Beach, and make a final stop at Deer Island park with views of the Boston skyline across the harbor.

The route starts at Dilboy stadium in Somerville. We will be at the north end of the parking lot DIRECTLY OPPOSITE the GULF gas station. There is plenty of free parking. Or bike there from almost anywhere in the surrounding area.

This is intended to be a fun, scenic ride and not a sprint. I plan to ride at an average pace of 13-14 mph, though faster on some stretches. If there is a group that wants to ride faster, we'll meet you at lunch.

If you sign-up, show up. There are way too many meet-up members who sign up for rides with little actual commitment. I see a lot of events where only about half the folks who sign up actually follow through.

This is a no-drop ride, but you should be in good riding condition with a road bike. Make sure that your bike is in good working order before you leave home. Helmets required. You are responsible for your own safety.

The departure time will be 9:30 from Dilboy and we should return by 2:30. I will offer a brief ride overview and safety talk at 9:20.

If rain/poor weather is in the forecast, I will cancel the ride by 5 pm on Saturday night.

Registration closes at midnight on Thursday before the ride. If there are fewer than 4 riders, I will cancel.

I'm not going to cap this ride. We can spread out at the start if there is a large contingent.
