Stargazing & Moonlit Skies @ Tommy Thompsons

Details
Join us for a night under the stars at one of Toronto’s most unique natural escapes — Tommy Thompson Park. With a nearly full moon lighting up the sky, the night will be bright, offering a chance to enjoy moonlit landscapes along with views of the brightest constellations and planets.
⸻
🗓 Date & Time
• Meetup Time: 8:45 PM (we’ll walk in before park closure at 9:00 PM)
• End Time: Around midnight (note: the park is officially closed after 9:00 PM, so staying later is technically at your own discretion)
⸻
📍 Meeting Point
• We’ll meet at the Leslie Street entrance gate near the parking lot around 8:45pm. Will drop a pin for the folks who join later
⸻
🧰 What to Bring
✅ Flashlight or headlamp (red light mode preferred to protect night vision)
✅ Warm layers (it can get cool and breezy by the water at night)
✅ Bug spray (mosquitoes may be active, especially near wetlands)
✅ Snacks & water (no food or drink services are available in the park)
✅ Binoculars or a telescope (optional, but great for sky-watching)
✅ Blanket, beach mat, or small sheet — perfect for stretching out under the stars
✅ Portable chair (for extra comfort while you relax and enjoy the night)
⸻
⚠️ Precautions & Expectations
• Park Rules: The official closing time is 9:00 PM. After that, access is unofficial. Many locals do stay later, but please be aware this is outside official park hours.
• Terrain: Trails are unlit and uneven in places—wear good walking shoes.
• Wildlife: Coyotes, raccoons, and other nocturnal animals are present. Keep a safe distance and do not feed wildlife.
• Safety: Stick with the group. Bring a fully charged phone and a buddy if possible.
• Experience Level: This is a casual stargazing outing — you don’t need astronomy knowledge, just curiosity and appreciation for the night sky!
⸻
✨ What to Expect
• A chance to see stars more clearly than in downtown Toronto, thanks to reduced light pollution at the park’s tip.
• Gorgeous city skyline views at night combined with a canopy of stars overhead.
• On a clear, no-moon night, you might spot:
• Constellations like Orion, Cassiopeia, and Ursa Major
• Bright planets (depending on timing)
• Satellite flyovers or even the ISS if lucky
• A quiet, reflective evening surrounded by nature—right in the city.
⸻
🔭 This event is about slowing down, unplugging, and enjoying the night sky together. Whether you bring a telescope, binoculars, or just your eyes, you’ll leave with a new appreciation of Toronto’s hidden wild side.
