What we’re about
Ever find your social circle not quite matching your 'out and about' interests? Need to expand your network so you can do things of interest with other people? Could be seeing live music, seeing sporting events, participating in walks/hiking/on-water activities, racquet sports, live entertainment, checking out new comedy shows, dining experiences... the list goes on. The goal is to give like-people an avenue to engage and participate where they may have said 'no thank you' without someone to go with. A chance to meet new people and build a social network, where we may not be able to otherwise. Let's see how this goes!
Note: Guests are not permitted to events within this group.
Updated Policies:
- No showing to an event will result in removal from the group.
- Continually RSVPing Yes and changing to RSVP No will eventually result in removal from the group. Try to know availability before saying Yes to allow others to participate and reduce lengthy wait lists.
- Should you join the group but do not visit it or join in on any events for many months will result in removal from the group.
Group Fees: (Payable to Shawnameetup@gmail.com)
New members (in case you're telling others about the group or leave/come back):
- Fee is payable within 7 days of joining the group or before the first event, whichever comes first; failure to submit fee will result in removal from the group.
- Fee is prorated by months remaining in the year ($1 per month), e.g. joining mid-June = $1 x 6 remaining months = $6.
Existing members:
- Fee is payable on or before the first event you attend after January 1st; Pro-rating of the fee does not apply to existing members; the fee is good for all of 2025; it is non-refundable and non-transferrable
- For current members who have purchased tickets for existing/already posted events, the annual fee will still be applicable; however, should you decide to not participate in the annual fee/group membership (which is fine), your paid event remains good, but you will not be able to participate in other events.
- Paid members will be prioritized over non-paid members where a waitlist is applicable.
- Participating in the annual fee does not override/excuse any of the existing group rules: 1) No showing to an event will result in removal from the group 2) Perpetual RSVP = Yes and switching to No may result in removal from the group 3) If you join the group and never visit the group or participate in an event - you will be removed from the group (for unpaid existing members only)
Housekeeping/Reminders:
- It is the responsibility of members to ensure personalized notifications are appropriately set in the Meetup.com App. Failure to receive an alert/reminder/notification/message is the responsibility of the member and not the organizer.
- As part of signing up with Meetup.com, members have agreed to terms and conditions associated with participating in group events, including participating in posted events at your own risk (health, injuries, etc.). Any injuries or issues that occur while participating in an event is not transferable (transfer of fault) to the organizer.
- I do not allow guests to participate in group Meetup events for 2 reasons: 1) Guests do not consent/agree to the terms and conditions (see 1st bullet) 2) The group is meant to meet new people - it's not uncommon for people to use ideas from this group to book events with their friends/family on their own.
- Per above, the group is meant to meet new people, enjoy each other's company and enjoy experiences together. This is not a 'singles meetup group', but instead is meant to build friendships. IF you decide to message someone privately to pursue a friendship, please be considerate of those you are communicating with. I have received a few messages regarding instances where people have messaged others with the intention of getting to know a person outside of the group. It's important to me (as the group organizer) that people are comfortable and are not deterred from participating in the group as a result. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable and/or are contacted by a member inappropriately, please let me know and I'll handle instances of concern on an individual basis.

## Who is Brian Melo?
Hamilton's singer-songwriter Brian Melo became a household name in 2007 after winning Canadian Idol. Brian’s debut album “Livin’ It” revealed his fast-emerging songwriting instincts. The album achieved Gold Status, and his first single, “All I Ever Wanted,” hit #1 on the charts and became the unofficial anthem for the 2008 Canadian Summer Olympics Team. Brian charted two additional singles, “Shine” and “Summertime” from his debut. “Summertime” was also covered by Australian Idol Shannon Noll and was a Top 20 hit down under.
In 2010, Brian released his 2nd album “The Truth” which was a collection of songs that showcased Brian emerging as a world class singer-songwriter. He possesses an uncanny ability to combine classic rock energy with contemporary nuance and unforgettable melodies. He has, in a word become “prolific,” having written hundreds of songs over the last several years, with many cut for other artists,’ TV and film. Brian also had two singles from “The Truth,” Soundproof,” and “Anywhere But Here” that both charted on Canadian Radio.
Over the last several years, Brian has the opportunity to share the stage with some great artists such as Queen, Maroon 5, Rihanna, Bon Jovi, Alanis Morissette, Chicago, and American Idol Kelly Clarkson. His national tours saw him rock some of Canada’s most legendary venues and partner with other rising stars, such as Faber Drive, whom he also guested on their “Sleepless Nights” single and video.
After the success of his two solo records, Brian started writing and working on his upcoming third album, until one show would send his career on a new path. Brian was invited to perform a rendition of “Eye Of The Tiger” for Sylvester Stallone at a Gala in Brian’s hometown of Hamilton, Ontario where Stallone would be the guest of honour. Wanting to gather the best talent possible for his performance, he invited (vocalist) Victoria Boland and (guitarist) Andrew Rudd to share the stage with him. Shortly after that, the band Apollo’s Crown was born! Brian and Apollo’s Crown recorded their debut album “Providence” with Grammy nominated producer Dave Brainard at The Legendary Grand Victor RCA Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, where he lived for 5 years. Although he had a truly unforgettable experience with AC, Brian was ready to bring his newfound knowledge and expertise back home, where he could focus all of his energy on his solo career.
His passion for music and people is always apparent. He is constantly growing, staying creative and giving back to his community. Brian is currently working on new material for his next solo project while making a tremendous impact through his music mentoring programs and podcast Beyond the Melody.
