2nd SUNDAY THIS MONTH ! Serving our community + Christmas Backpack Drive !

Annually during Christmas time, Happy Helpers gives out hundreds and hundreds of backpacks filled with essential food, supplies and gifts to the homeless and those in need. Due to generous donors, we have the food, supplies and gifts covered but we still need approximately 150 new or gently used (no rips, holes or stains) adult backpacks by the end of November. Last year, the amazing members of Meetup helped us gather together almost 180 backpacks. Please help if you can. Looking for waterproof or at least water resistant / water repellant backpacks with zipper closure, shoulder strap (not cross body), polyester (not nylon since nylon usually isn't waterproof) at least 15" but preferably 17" in height. I used to get so many really decent backpacks from Ollie's Bargain Outlet for $6 but sadly found out that Ollie's doesn't really carry backpacks anymore. * I greatly appreciate those who volunteer. Those we help do remember us and are happy when they see us coming back because they know we could be doing something else and we instead chose to come help :) So please do not feel obligated to buy a backpack if it poses a financial burden. You can also have a school / community fundraiser and raise money that will go towards purchase of additional backpacks from Amazon as well.

*** PLEASE NOTE regarding where to park: As you make a left onto Centre Street, it leads immediately to Fallsway. Stay on Fallsway and pass the large Penthouse Building and make an immediate right onto E. Monument St and you will see a security gate on the left. Just hit the buzzer and let them know you are a volunteer and they will let you in. * There is additional parking in front of the Our Daily Bread building as well in a fenced in area where you will see quite a few off duty white government vehicles - see attached map with noted parking #1 and #2 available to us

Call me at 646 894-1218 if you have any problems. On the day of the event, please call me on my cell instead of messaging here because I want to make sure you get any help you need right away.

WHAT WE DO: We setup and organize our goods and clothing, and then hand out all that we can to Baltimore’s needy. Then we clean up and have announcements. We are typically done by noon. WE WILL COLLECT ANY BACKPACKS AS WELL !

Happy Helpers for the Homeless has been feeding and taking care of
Baltimore's homeless for over 30 years. Happy Helpers is an all-volunteer organization and a registered 501(c)(3). Happy Helpers brings love and necessities directly to homeless and poverty-stricken men, women, and children every Saturday and Sunday no matter the weather and including holidays.

Over 25,000 people have volunteered over the past 30 years. Ask about the weekly Saturday Happy Helpers events that take place at Happy Helpers headquarters in Glen Burnie where volunteers make sandwiches, prepare meal bags, and fill backpacks with snacks and school supplies for children in need.

MISSION: To provide food, toiletries, and clothing with compassion and a smile; to spread our belief that if all those able get involved, the human tragedy of homelessness will be solved. Happy Helpers served their Millionth Sandwich for Homeless in 2020.
