Wagon Train to the Stars: Exploring and Colonizing Other Worlds

Pondering From All Angles: Philosophical Exploration Group
Details
Scientists and engineers are exploring the idea of colonizing other planets (see the links below). What are some reasons for humans to colonize other planets? Why would people want to go? Would you go if given the chance? How should these colonist/explorers be selected (skills needed and genetic diversity would be factors affecting the number of people and composition of the group)?
What moral issues arise when contemplating the establishment of a colony human on a planet that already has native life forms? Consider the likelihood that humans will interfere with the natural development of life on another world.
Consider also the complexity and feasibility of identifying and reaching a planet conducive to successful colonization. What level of scientific and technological expertise will be necessary to reasonably assure success before embarking on such a journey?
We will discuss these and other issues related to deep space exploration and colonization.
