Enjoy a January Walk in Black Mountain

Walk through the quaint and picturesque town of Black Mountain, called the "front porch of Western North Carolina." Meet at 12:00 p.m. in front of Town Hardware & General Store, 103 W State St., Black Mountain 28711. Arrive early as parking may be a challenge. Restrooms are available at the Town Square (outdoor park) across the intersection with NC 9 (Montreat Road).

I estimate the walk at about 3 miles. There are some moderate hills, but most people will not need walking poles; the walk is almost entirely on pavement, so tennis shoes are fine.

This walk features a loop around Lake Tomahawk and the "Oaks" mansion repurposed for use by Montreat College.

Dogs are welcome. Dress for the weather. As always, bring plenty of water and a protein snack.
