Please read the ENTIRE description before signing up!!!

General Description: We are planning on having two groups of hikers/canyoneers. Due to the permitting in Zion will need to split up into a minimum of two groups. John Lemke and I have put in for angels landing permits for Friday and Saturday and await the lottery pull on those. We already have a Mystery canyon permit for Sunday which 6 People can sign up for. I will create a spreadsheet with the list of permits/options we have for the day. We will be camping on BLM land which I will drop a GPS Location for.

Canyons and Activities to consider:

  1. Elkheart Cliffs Slot Canyon (hike or rappel)
  2. Birch Hollow - (rappel) [NO PERMIT REQUIRED!! :-) )
  3. Mystery (rappel) [Exits in The Narrows]
  4. The Narrows (hike) -Neoprene socks and stick recommended
  5. Spry (rappel) - Wetsuit required
  6. Dianna's Throne (hike or rappel)
  7. Keyhole & Pinecreek (rappel) [Can hike up to Pinecreek Exit] - Wetsuit required for canyon
  8. Monday Kanarraville Falls on the way back (hike)
  9. Monday Redcliff (hike)

GEAR: If you are doing canyons you will need the following:

  • A harness (climbing or canyon)
  • A descender (NOT ATC!!)
  • A PAS
  • Helmet
  • VT prussik
  • Locking Carabiners
  • Wetsuit (if required)

For everything including canyons you will need proper hiking equipment, emergency gear, food, water and medicines you may need.

Camping/Lodging: We will be doing dispersed camping on BLM land on the East Rim of Zion.

Costs: If we have enough people with National Parks Passes, we should not have any costs for entry. There are costs for the permits and each person will need to pay around 6$ and tax for each permit they would like to attend. I will let you know the final amount when we have secured all the permits. You can send it to me on Venmo or hand cash or check to me (please Venmo). A donation for wear and tear on canyon gear is much appreciated, but not required! :)

Spreadsheet: After signing up for the trip, you will receive an email or Meetup message with a link to a spreadsheet. It only takes a few minutes to complete, but providing the requested information is hugely important to our ability to organize a trip of this nature with multiple activity options. Timely completing the spreadsheet locks in your spot on the trip.

Attendee Cap: Because of the limitations on parking and camping in the area, I am starting the cap at 12. Depending on canyon leaders or people who would like to just hike, I may up the cap to around 18. If you are interested and capable of leading canyons please let me know!

Cancellation Fee: While there is no upfront fee for the trip (aside from permits), if you cancel after May 1, 2025, a $40 cancelation fee applies and is due no later than June 15, 2025. The cancelation fee applies regardless of your reason for dropping out and it applies to both dropping out of the trip and arriving late or leaving early from the trip (if you know you cannot attend the full trip, let me know before signing up and I will see if we can accommodate). We have a cancelation fee to (1) ensure respect for those on the waitlist, given the popularity of the trips; (2) account for the effort and time it takes organizers to reach out to those on the waitlist and get them up to speed; and (3) help cover our Meetup dues. The fee has gone up to $40 because Meetup has more than doubled our yearly subscription costs, and this is our only source of revenue to fund the group.
