About The Trip
Join us on a day trip in the Jocassee Gorges to conquer the highest peak in South Carolina! We’ll be hiking from the NC-178 trailhead up to the Sassafras Mountain summit. The trailhead is accessed across NC-178, and you must cross the highway to access the trailhead.

Weather Dependent
This trip is dependent on weather conditions. Meetup organizers reserve the right to cancel this trip within 24 hours of trip dependent on weather conditions. The weather is currently forecast as partly cloudy with a high of 53 and a low of 35.

Hiking Level
The route for this trail is considered strenuous based on Sheanadoah’s Hiking Difficulty (SHD) Formula with a numerical rating of 197. Please, only sign up for this hike if you are an experienced hiker. According to the SHD formula, a strenuous hike will challenge most hikers.

Bring food and water to sustain yourself through the hike.

Itinerary
10AM - meet at the trailhead. Make introductions and take to the trail!
This trail is expected to take between 5-6 hours according to alltrails. If interested, after the hike we might meet for food at a restaurant on the way back to the Charlotte area. This is completely optional.

Parking is VERY limited at the parking lot. Please carpool if possible.
