About us
This group is all about hiking with dogs! We mostly hike in the Sacramento foothills or high sierra east of Sac. We try to find places where the dogs can be off-leash responsibly. We limit the number of dogs that are allowed to join to keep the energy levels manageable and to make it easier to be off leash. We are not a fast paced hiking group. We take our time, enjoy the view, take pictures, chat and generally have a good time!
We do not allow dogs with prong collars or shock collars to attend our hikes.
We also do not allow dogs that are unaltered. All dogs must be spayed/neutered.
All hikers must clean up after their dog, pack it in-pack it out.

Winnemucca Lake - 5 Miles
Carson Pass, Highway 88, Alpine County, CA, USWe will start at the Carson Pass Information Station and take the trail to Winnemucca Lake stopping at Frog lake for a round trip of about 5 miles. If you are more adventurous, you can continue to Round lake which is almost a mile farther. I plan to stop at Winnemucca for lunch and hang out a while, then go back. The trailhead is just to the left of the Information Station.
There is an iron ranger to pay the 5$ parking fee, bring cash.We hike at a leisurely pace, stopping to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. This is not a fast paced hike.
This hike will be mostly on-leash. This is part of the PCH and the leash laws are enforced more strictly here. There may be some open spaces where they can run, will have to see what the trail conditions are like.

Weather forecast for Kirkwood is a high of 63. It will be chilly to start at 9:30, but will warm up as we go. Bring layers. The latest reports say patchy snow until Frog Lake, then more snow on the trail to Winnemucca. With the warm weather this week, most of that should melt so it will be soggy trail but there could still be snow patches on the whole trail. Be prepared with good hiking boots.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to get your gear ready to hike. We will not wait for latecomers.
Bring: A leash, poop bags, hat, bug spray, sunscreen, layered clothes, plenty of water and lunch for you and your dog.
RSVP: For the number of Dogs not people.
2 people & one dog = 1 (+0)
2 dogs and one person = 2 (+1)Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance to give others a chance to go. There is no reception at the trail head so I will not see last minute cancelations.
