Defending the First Amendment @ HumanistsMN Community Gathering

Faith-based groups are attempting to grab power and influence as they subvert the first amendment. In this presentation, Patrick Elliott, Legal Director of the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), will discuss recent attacks on the separation between state and church and the work that FFRF is doing to push back. In particular, religious organizations have undertaken lawsuits and legislation to push religion in schools. Patrick will discuss the “power grab” that is underfoot by Christian nationalists and recent important state/church cases.

The presentation and discussion will be from 3:00 - 4:30. Afterwards, gather with other Saturday session attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.

Presenter: Patrick lives here in the Twin Cities, is a member of HumanistsMN, and works for the Freedom From Religion Foundation. He has worked as an attorney on First Amendment issues for more than 15 years.
