The Hike: Please read the entire description before signing up. Not recommended as a "first-ever" hike. This isn't breakneck wednesday, but what we lack in rocks, we make up for it in speed! The first mile from the trailhead is a steady, and somewhat strenuous, uphill that some hikers may find difficult. Hikers should not overestimate his/her abilities. There is no "sweeper" following the last hiker(s). The hike starts at the posted time. This will be a fast-paced workout hike. We will make our way to the vista loop (yellow trail) and climb up to the Hawk Rock, Cactus Ledge and make a sharp right turn onto the ridge trail (Blue).
If time allows, we will make a right turn on red for a detour back to the blue trail at the dam. We will cross the dam and turn left to to get to the sunset rock where we will take a snack break. If the timing is right, this is where we will stay for the sunset. If sunsets much later, you have the option of staying here for the sunset.
After the break, we will continue on the yellow trail at the top of the sunset rock (slight right turn at the top of the rock), and follow this to the vista outlook point. After a scenic break, we will make our way back down to the parking lot.
