🎄 Christmas Eve Hike – Blackhead Range 🎄

Come hike, sweat, laugh, and start Christmas Eve the Hudson Valley Hiker way. 🌲🥾

Join Hudson Valley Hikers for a festive and challenging Christmas Eve morning hike in the Catskills! We’ll be tackling the stunning Blackhead Range, one of the most rewarding ridgelines in the region, known for sweeping views, rugged terrain, and true winter mountain vibes.

Please note the ascent up blackhead can be physically demanding, and with the presence of thick ice pretty sketchy 

📍 Meeting Location:
Big Hollow Road Trailhead

⏰ Time:
• Meet: 7:45 AM sharp
• Step off shortly after (no late starts—winter daylight matters!)

🥾 The Hike:
Expect a strenuous winter hike with steady elevation gain, rocky sections, and potentially icy or snowy conditions. We’ll move at a responsible pace, but hikers should be prepared to hike alone. Should they hike, slower, or faster than the group . This is a longer, tougher route—best suited for hikers with solid experience and proper winter gear.

• Traction (microspikes or crampons as conditions dictate)
• Layers for cold, windy summits
• Plenty of water & high-energy snacks
• Headlamp (short winter days)
• Holiday cheer encouraged 🎅

There’s something special about earning a summit on Christmas Eve—quiet trails, crisp air, and views that feel like a gift you worked for. It’s a perfect way to start the holiday with community, challenge, and Catskills beauty.

⚠️ Notes:
Weather and trail conditions will be monitored closely. Final go/no-go updates will be posted the evening before.

Please note there’s no cell service at the trailhead
