What’s better than bats? Try hundreds of thousands of Purple Martins swirling through the sky in a jaw-dropping display of synchronized flight!
Join us for one of Austin’s most awe-inspiring natural events—Travis Audubon’s Purple Martin Party. This is a must-see summer spectacle where birders, photographers, families, and curious onlookers gather to witness these acrobatic birds put on a show before roosting for the night.
As Purple Martins wrap up their summer breeding season and prepare for their long migration to South America, they gather nightly in massive flocks—performing dazzling aerial maneuvers before settling into the trees. Past attendees have called it “a hurricane of birds,” “absolutely magical,” and “better than the bats!”
What to Bring:
– Lawn chair or blanket
– Hat, water, and sun protection
– Binoculars or a camera (optional but fun!)
– Friends, family, and neighbors—this is for everyone!
Pro Tip: It’ll still be hot out, so hydrate and dress for the weather. The birds put on their best show right before dark—don’t miss it.
Let’s gather together and celebrate one of the coolest natural events Austin has to offer. Come for the birds, stay for the wow.
