Sun 9/7, 8:30am @ Umstead, 6 or 11mi Lobolly to Schenck and zombie tunnels!

Let's hike the LOBLOLLY TO SCHENCK FOREST trails with zombie tunnels before they get flooded again!

Meet at the entrance of Umstead off of Harrison Ave. Come prepared to hike BRISKLY - but not superfast - at a 3-3.5 mph pace - whole 11-12 mile hike should take about 3-4 hours, with shorter 6-7mi Loblolly only option taking around 2.5 hours.

Hiking the Loblolly trail to Schenck Forest, adding the Edwards Mill Road/Richlands Creek section via the tunnels (making a bigger loop) would add another 4-5 miles. We should be done by 12:30-1pm.

Trail will be shady, but could be muddy - and I haven't hiked this route recently, so some parts, we may need to "re-blaze". Be prepared to hike in tunnels, and cross the creek. (If it's too muddy, we'll hike the Liles trail instead of Richland creek.)

If it is drizzly and overcast in the morning, I will still hike, pouring rain, no. If needed I will cancel by 8am, so watch for that.

Take I-40 to exit 287, Harrison Ave, head north (left on Harrison if you are heading east on I-40, right on Harrison if you were heading west on I-40). Go straight into the parking lot.

Meet by the sign with maps on the right side of the parking lot near the Loblolly trailhead. I will be there a little before the meetup time.

Wear the proper attire, PLEASE bring water, snacks etc.
